Do you use movies, books, plays, etc as the basis for your adventures?

This is something I'm sure has been covered many times. I ask because I am plannign on starting a new campaign to try and keep my sanity in the coming year as my wife goes back to school. I'll need to somethign to occupy my time when the kids are settled in and the house is quiet.

Anyhow, I was considering making a bit of a game of it for myself, trying to use popular movies, books, and plays reworked into a cohessive campaign. The fun of it for me in the experiment and also to see if the players can pick up on them. It also has the biproduct of cutting down on my development time for games.

Anyone have any experience with this?
