Having landed a job where I can spend more time than I really need to on the computer and in LJ communities, and generally having nothing to do on what is for many a holiday Stateside, I am hoping to spark a discussion on the following subject, that I'm certain has been discussed and debated into the ground: Significant Others and the Gaming Enviornment.
I have noted upon multiple occasions that Significant Others (SO) being introduced into a game can significantly impact that game, how it is run, and the attitudes of the players and GM towards the SO, dependent on the relationships involved.
This has been a pet peeve of mine for sometime. It annoys me to see GM's cater to their SO's in games. I hate seeing the SO take advantage of the fact that they happen to be sleeping with the GM (if I ever hear the words "If you kill my character, you will never get sex again" ever again, I may be forced to strangle the person in question).
In general, this behavior is more common with girlfriends who get introduced into the boyfriend's gaming group, however I am willing to concede that the behavior can be and has been exhibited in reversed gender roles.
I am really curious to know what experiences my fellow gamers have had in this arena - SOs introduced to your games or gaming in general, how this has impacted the games you've played, etc.
