In August 2004, at GenCon, Steve Jackson Games will release GURPS Fourth Edition, starting with the two-volume Basic Set. Fans have been asking about a new edition for years, and we've always said it wouldn't happen until we could justify the change in terms of both rules and presentation. Well, we're there.
Descriptions with a very important question of mine answered:
GURPS Basic Set, Volume 1 combines information from the Third Edition GURPS Basic Set and GURPS Compendium I, plus hundreds of new and updated rules!
GURPS Basic Set, Volume 2 combines information from the Third Edition GURPS Basic Set and GURPS Compendium II -- plus our new core setting, with infinite possibilities for timeline-hopping adventure!
So the Compendiums are being integrated (it seem like a no brainer but hey...companies have done stupider stuff before).
So, beyond the fact that I just last month broke down and bought Compendium II and now wish I hadn't (at least it was used), I'm happy about this because I'm tired of going through a copy of 3rd every few years (bought my FOURTH copy, again used but basically mint 'cept for a light soda stain). Hardbacks plus at least getting a new edition will help. Plus, I suspect my GM's Guide...sorry Campain Book will last longer.
Thoughts anyone?
