4:14p - Elric/Stormbringer: Switch to MRQ, yea or nay?
I am completely confident running a Stormbringer game of the Elric!/Stormbringer 4.5/5th edition era. (Just as confident doing so with third edition and even taking a stab at the fourth, but absolutely no interest in doing so any more!)
My problem is that almost no one seems interested. The last time I scouted for players, they either assumed I was starting up the Mongoose Runequest-based version or playing the old school third/fourth edition version.
I'm a fan of progress, but not of buying a new system just because it's the latest thing. Also, I have pretty much every Elric! supplement (except the monographs) and a fair amount of earlier edition stuff, too. I don't want them to be rendered completely useless. If nothing else, I don't have time to write up a lot of adventures and would need to at least start with published stuff.
So I ask you fine folks, is it worth switching over? And how much of a change will it be?
Edited to add: I broke down and bought the new game, more out of curiosity than anything else. So far, not terribly foreign mechanicswise, though the magic system is completely different (and, I might add, much improved in my opinion!). I'm not sure how I feel about the dedicated POW and gift/compulsion system for initiates of Chaos, Law, or the Elemental Rulers, but the concept does intrigue me at least. And I might lift the magic system for Stormbringer.
I wouldn't mind running this game with an intro scenario to make sure I don't screw up too badly at first.
And as I thought, I have had zero takers so far for my proposed Stormbringer game. :( I half wonder if I'd do better advertising a Chaosium BRP game, then tell the potential players I'm using a specific fantasy setting and spring Stormbringer on them.
