11:54a - 4E Question for Old Skool Gamers
I'm talking here about any members of the gaming fraternity who subscribe to this community, and who also happen to be as old skool as it's possible to get - those who became gamers during the Seventies / Eighties, when the only roleplaying games available were effectively D&D and, perhaps, Traveller. Maybe RuneQuest too.

Call us "first generation gamers" for clarity.

Have you bought 4E? Ran or played it? How does it feel, compared to the stiff and creaky old 1st or 2nd Ed, or Advanced D&D?

Has the experience awoken in you that feeling you used to have when you started gaming, way back then?

As an ancient, creaky old first genner myself, I'd really like to know what others like me think.

5:08p - New to the Community
Hi, all. Been part of the LJ community for a couple of years now, but have only recently joined this community. I've been roleplaying since 1974 or so, and have run and played in a lot of different rpgs.

With the release of the new 4th Ed. D&D game, and some of the other rpgs that are coming onto the market these days, I have a simple question for the folks here:

What things/factors/elements do you look for in a roleplaying game?

10:52p - I love it when a plan comes together...
So my hapless little group of Nobles has just agreed to owe the Power of Treasure (portrayed quite clearly as a mercurial, ennui-driven femme fatale) several "unspecified favors" in return for a Major Divination.

And here I was afraid that this little side-trip would end up being a bit dull, rather than setting up an entire new plot-arc (once they get done preserving the world.) Meanwhile, another player is digging himself all kinds of holes in his prequel-thread; it'd take a couple of real-life sessions just to iron out all the problems he's made for himself already.

Don't you love it when the players exceed your expectations and just cheerfully walk right into the gilded door you've put in front of them, the one marked with a sign with the word "Trap" crossed out and "Free Pie" written in in crayon?

What's the best "own worst enemy" moment in your campaign?

To people who claim that game systems Mechanics ruin roleplaying (even though they have very little to do with one another) I have a new saying:
