One of the two RPGs I played at Games Expo 08 was Cubicle Seven's forthcoming Doctor Who RPG. This was with my friend Dave and four other players, and a very good GM who knew his Who. The adventure had the six of us playing ordinary Earthlings stuck in some kind of holding facility, which was very Big Brother. Playing an actual doctor I quickly tried to take charge and organise things with everyone else being stroppy and cranky as weird things happened in the room.

I also discovered some weird things about the seventh occupant of the room, who lay on a bunk in a comma. I went through his pockets to find a strange pen shaped device, a bag of jelly babies, some paper clips, and a cheese and onion sandwich. Which in a nice nod to celery, was what woke the gentleman up. That after us playing around with the device and getting on each other's nerves.

The scenario did get into a corridor situation (which meant that we could use the chase rules) and there were several fun revelations along the way. That said, once the Doctor appeared we did get a bit of exposition and that could be a problem. I think that this will be alleviated with a smaller group -- that is, two or three players plus the Doctor as an NPC -- or with one player taking the role of the Doctor.

The system though, is pleasingly direct and easy to handle, and character generation probably matches that. I am really looking forward to seeing the finished game.
