Whether to buy an RPG I'll never play?

I have a shelf full of roleplaying games that I have either never or very rarely gotten the chance to play. Amber Diceless, Cyberpunk 2020, Exalted, Feng Shui, D&D 3, Nobilis…the works.

I don't even know if I'll ever get to play any of them. I don't have any local friends, or know of any local gaming circles. And all my online friends probably wouldn't be interested in playing any of them.

And here I am wanting to get into another RPG.

It's called Universalis. The list price is $20, but I could get it from SciFiGenre.com for $16 plus shipping. I learned about it in some posts on zamiel's LJ. It looks like a really fascinating idea, applying object-orientation (just like in programming) to the idea of creating a story—and I'd love to play in a session of it.

The problem is, I don't have any friends to play it with, and the friends I do have probably wouldn't be interested. And I probably shouldn't be spending the $20 anyway.

So what do I do?
