Internet vs. FtF RPG: Time Commitment

Is it just me, or has anyone else here discovered that Internet (journal, Chat, BBS, etc.) RPGs seem to require a much larger time commitment than a weekly or biweekly Face-to-Face game? At first glance, I thought it would be the other way around, but just about all of the 'Net games I've played in and GMed required a much bigger chunk of time say, per week, than the Face-to-Face games I've been in (don't get me wrong - I have nothing against online RPGs; I've just noticed that they seem to require a larger time commitment on behalf of a player or GM).

Maybe it's just me....

So I'm curious, what are your feelings regarding having characters portray conflicts with each other?
Do you think its entirely too easy to step over from game to real life conflict?
Do you enjoy character conflict, the rogue vs. the paladin?
