(no subject)

Hello! (This is my first post!)

I've been roleplaying for about 3 years (I got started when I was 17) I've had the most experience in Cyberpunk 2020 and D&D 3.5.

Since most of the players I meet are inexperienced, I usually end up DM/GMing. Unfortunantly, my style conflicts with the style of msot everyone in my area.
Wargaming is HUGE where I live. there are no less then 3 shops within a 10 minute drive of me. As such, most gamers are also into wargaming, or at least are from that school of thinking.

My games are heavy in narrative, storytelling and non-combat skill use. I tell my players that as the GM, It's what I'm comfortable with, unfortunantly, I'm met with "Can't we kill Kobolds for XP" and "When can we shoot something" or, the most extreme "Any game that doesn't use a D20 automaticly sucks"

Am I alone on my island of story/character focused gaming?
