(no subject)

Hi, folks. I am a long time tabletop/LARP/whatever-type gamer, but I only recently started NPC'ing. Since the LARP I am associated with runs out of NPCs occasionally, I thought I would help out. The first time, I told them I wanted something simple, and that was fine. They sent me out as a beastman and I hit things with my claws. The second time, I went out as a merchant, and I ran into my gaming fatal flaw: although I have been gaming for more than half my life, I cannot name things on the spot. I named myself fine, because girl names are easy to come up with on a moment's notice. But when it came to naming where I was from, I went utterly blank. It kinda broke character when I stammered, blushed, and didn't come up with anything.

I am not a newbie, but I have trouble coming up with things, because I always feel like whatever I come up with is cliche, has definitely been used before, or is connected too tightly to the real world. (The other merchant who was with me hadn't named the place until she was asked, and she named it "Willowood".)

I suppose that this is a form of GM block, so how do you guys come up with names on the spot? Any help, sources, URLs, etc would be highly appreciated.
