It's almost too embarrassing to repeat

I recall in the past, we've had some discussion about players that do stupid things. Starting combats where they shouldn't, etc.

I've gotten permission from my group to post this here and share our shame with you. We're a small group, with a total of two players (including me) and the DM. We're a (sort of) good aligned party. Our quest is a heroic one to save the world.

And a recent session ended with us killing a paladin. We feel like crap about it, too. We're not bad role-players... we just failed to notice all the completely unsubtle clue sticks our DM repeatedly hit us over the head with.

Here's some explanation of how we managed to be this stupid.
