12:39a - d20 Ability scores
Disclaimer: Normally, I don't care this much about rules. Since I'm writing a program that is supposed to be for everybody, the best way to do it is to write it by the rules. So....

After making a half-assed attempt at searching through the rule books, I bring my question to this community in hopes of an answer.

Throg is a half-orc barbarian, and he has a strength of 17. Throg is wandering around in a dungeon with his friends and suffers 3 points of temporary strength drain, bringing his effective strength down to 14. Later that day, through some miracle of miracles, his permanent strength score is increased to 18. What does this do to his effective strength score. Does it:

  • Bring his effective strength back up to 18?

  • Increase his effective strength by one

  • Do nothing to his effective strength

Would it make a difference if the thing that increased his score was simply leveling up?
