12:48p - Good and Evil
I have a big issue with this and it was spawned by an argument I had. Here is my issue. Generally, superficial ST's play evil as 'Hand Puppet of Evil/Disney Villain' style. You're standard slobbering beast or maniac screaming "MUWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!" This degrades the game thoroughly. Generally these players cannot see the point of view of their opposition and label them "evil" because it is an abstract term and allows them to categorize things without having to go through the uncomfortability of discovering why. It is a cop out. Just like people saying "Satan made me do it." It is a cop out, plain and simple.

Evil doesn't exist, it is a man-made construct to try to explain the things we don't understand. Generally, it is used to explain things we don't want to understand. Do you think that the Aztecs thought they were evil? They sacraficed people daily as part of their religion, however they thought they were saving the world from destruction by repaying this "pain debt" to Hummingbird-on-the-left. To Cortez they appeared to be evil. However, the spanish were plague bearers, rapists, and murderers themselves yet never thought that they were evil. Evil isn't real. Evil is a concept and mask to hide behind.

This brings us to the opposition of RPG's. This is what I was fighting with cuddles over. And to tell you the truth, I wanted to reach through the screen and shake some sense into him a couple times for telling me that I needed help for saying that BSD's aren't shocktroops.

Anyway, here we have the BSDs. They are trying to bring about the end of the world. They believe in the cycle and think that to get back to the first age (paradise) you have to turn the wheel. Right now the world is stuck on the fifth age and isn't moving to the sixth (armageddon) because the Weaver holds it in place. From the BSD's perspective, they are trying to do their job. They are trying to tear down the old to bring forth the new. In their minds, Father Wyrm is a freedom fighter that is being constrained by the Weaver and it's minions. The Gaian Garou are pawns of the Weaver, trying to prevent the inevitable apocalypse. Even the word for the end time "apocalypse" means "revelation". They aren't a bunch of beasts hiding in a corner fucking babies. They have a point of view and are trying to do what they think is the right thing. There /are/ crazy shocktroopers in the BSD's, but those are the ones that they throw at the Garou to mislead them and make them underestimate the BSD's power.

The Vampires are also evil. They live off of other people's life. However, I doubt a toreador would claim to be evil. A ventrue would claim to be guiding humanity. The Sabbat are doing what they can to stop the Antedilluvians from rising up and destroying all Kindred. From each point of view, their opposition is considered evil.

Here is a real world example. Americans for a long time, and some still do, think that Communism is the greatest evil ever to walk the face of the earth. Communism. Sharing. That is considered evil by some. Communists see Capitalists as evil for their greed. Who is truly evil? The answer is that Evil doesn't exist, there is only perspective.

There is no Wicked Witch of the West, there is only a world of Javert's. Don't know who Javert is? Put down your gaming book and read some literature.
