Solomon was a slave in life and a slave in death. Embraced in to the Khaibit bloodline, he served the Circle of Crone in Atlanta. When the local high priestess sent her childe to Austin, Solomon was sent along as well, as a gift to the Prince of Austin. The Prince was largely uninterested in having his own shadowy occultist, rarely summoning Solomon to murder some uppity subject or spy on some elder. When the Prince entered Torpor in 1937, Solomon noted that no provisions had been made for his servitude to be passed on, and declared himself free. Thirty four years later the Carthians made that claim official, disavowing any bonds held over him in exchange for his support of the Movement. Solomon refused any official title, instead using his incredible stealth and Auspex to spy on the vampires of Austin, and filling the Carthians in on useful info when he feels like it. Solomon's up to something else, which I'll mention later. He hates the former Prince, and fears the upcoming confrontation will be quite violent.
Keeper of Elysium
(About Elysiums: In Austin, the Carthians ruled that each Covenant could claim and maintain one Elysium. Everyone else is welcome, but each covenant would be responsible for their Elysium and could place it anywhere they want so long as it's not in someone else's domain. The Carthians have a habit of moving their Elysium every few months or years. Regardless of where it's at, they always call it the Cartel.)
Samuel is intelligent, observant, and calm. He spends most of his time lounging at the Cartel, reading a book and listening in on everyone else. Regardless of where the Cartel is, Samuel will bring his ipod, plug it in to any PA system that exists and subject all of the other Kindred to listen to an eclectic mix of the Velvet Underground, Public Enemy, Gang of Four, TV on the Radio, The Stooges, etc. Samuel has recently befriended Emma, and is fairly oblivious to her interest in him. He's the grandchilde of Mekhet Primogen Daniel Colt. Samuel's sire met an unspecified end several years ago, perhaps at Daniel's hands.
Nosferatu Primogen, well liked heavy
Tony was a dock worker in life, a squat barrel of a man. He was embraced by a fairly monstrous Invictus Nosferatu, who used him as muscle. I should really name and describe this guy a bit at some point. When the Carthians arrived in town, Tony helped kill his sire and threw his weight behind their coup. Tony's fairly well liked. For a vampire he's pretty straight forward and honest. He tends to be something of a moderate voice in the Primogen council, although he will fight tooth and nail to keep the Invictus from coming back in to power.
Perpetually Down On His Luck Homeless Guy
Salt is a new addition to the setting, stolen wholeheartedly from Black Hat Matt's post here. His sire is the same as Tony's, and Tony tends to look down on his "younger brother" for not doing anything with himself and his Requiem. I just really like this guy and think he'll be a nice addition to the city.
Ventrue Primogen, Socialist Carpetbagger
Alexei was an idealistic and angry young man, Embraced during the Communist insurrections of 1917. He quickly became a rising star in the Carthian Movement, but fled the country during Stalin's purges in 1934. Alexei traveled a few years, unable to find a safe or welcoming home. He spent some time in Torpor, waiting out much of the 40s and 50s. By the early 1960s, Alexei had arrived in New York City. Joining with the other Carthians there, he failed to bring about major change to the city's undead power structure. In the late 60s, Alexei and a group of conspiritors decided to move west, to find a suitable city with a weak Prince to reshape to their beliefs. They settled on Austin.
After the Carthian coup, Alexei rose to power as one of the architects of the city's new government, settling in to the role of Ventrue Primogen. Tonight he works constantly to strengthen the Carthians and to weaken the soon to return Prince's authority and power. He knows the Carthians and the Prince will never peacefully coexist, and is determined to win by whatever cost. Alexei is considerably more hard line than some of the other Primogen, and even many of the Carthian leadership. He dislikes the Circle of Crone and Lancea Sanctum, viewing them as delusional lunatics. Alexei also works diligently to maintain the Masquerade in Austin, working closely with the Sheriff's deputies to cover up any potential breaches.
I really haven't done much with Anthony. He's a local, a civil rights lawyer in life, perhaps Alexei's childe. Anthony isn't a member of the Primogen, and doesn't have much sway as far as the laws of the city go, but he is ostensibly the highest ranking Carthian in the city, and has showed a will of his own on more than one occasion. Other than that, I got nothing.
Sire: Alexei Paschov
For decades Robert served as the mouthpiece for the Primogen. The term "Herald" deemed too archaic, Robert was the Communications Director for the Primogen of Austin. During an affair with Verona Drake, Robert developed a taste for Kindred vitae. He told no one, indulging his blood addiction on the Daeva Primogen and a few other Kindred when he could get away with it. In the last few years, Robert began taking on assistants to help spread the word of any new laws, rulings, or proclamations. A trio of young female vampires worked for him: Emma Reine (Carthian Daeva), Hannah (Invictus Ventrue), and Marley (Circle Daeva). It didn't take long for Robert to abuse his authority and feed on his three assistants. Recently, word got out and the Primogen removed him from his position. Now, he's something of a pariah among the Carthians. He's debating joining the Invictus, and is anxious to find out which one of those three bitches ratted him out. (Like many of the Kindred in Austin, he suspects Hannah. We'll get to her in a few posts.)
Deputy to the Sheriff
Sire: ? (Perhaps Anthony Silva)
For someone I have such an empty character sheet for, Christian has shown up more than a few times in the chronicle so far. He's a young vampire, embraced in the last decade or so. Christian is the sheriff's Dominate machine, and chief investigator. He's somewhat resentful of the sheriff, and thinks he could probably do a better job. He's probably been keeping tabs on anything untoward the Sheriff is up to, and might use it as leverage at some point. Christian wants to learn Auspex, and if the opportunity presents itself he wouldn't be above stealing it.
(One of the few house rules in this chronicle is that the signature disciplines (Auspex, Presence, Dominate, Protean, and Nightmare) require you to drink the blood of a member of the clan that knows that power in order to learn it. So far the Mekhet have been pretty tight with their blood, and if Christian comes across a captive or torpid Mekhet in his duties, he'll probably grab a drink for himself just to learn their power.)
And that's it for the Carthians in town! Thank you to everyone who's posted so far. I'm going to keep linking the old posts at the end of each new one, so we can go back and add more details and relationships as I detail new vampires.
